Review

Walking with Dinosaurs 3D is produced by BBC Earth and is named after their 1999 television series of the same name. The film features computer-animated dinosaurs in live-action settings with actors John Leguizamo, Justin Long, Tiya Sircar and Skyler Stone providing the voiceovers for the main characters.

The plot or what little there is centres on three Pachyrhinosaurus dinosaurs named Patchi, Scowler and Juniper who we follow as they grow from infants into adulthood. Patchi leads the herd in migrating and along the way they encounter various other dinosaurs with equally wild names such as Gorgon the Gorgosaurus and the Edmontosaurus. The whole thing being narrated by Alexornis the bird, a character that seems to be a straight rip off of Zazu from The Lion King

The problem that I had was that all the Dinosaurs looked the same. The only thing that separates the main dinosaur Patchi from the other bland and characterless ones is that he has bizarrely been given a hole in his head, this being caused by a freak accident at the start of the film.

Young children will no doubt love the film, after all that's the target audience. Adults who are dragged along will no doubt find less to keep them amused. Even the 3D which you would have expected to have been pretty good considering that it was filmed natively in 3D is pretty ordinary.

One for children only.
