THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI is a darkly comedic drama from
Academy Award® winner Martin McDonagh (IN BRUGES). After months have passed
without a culprit in her daughter’s murder case, Mildred Hayes (Academy
Award® winner Frances McDormand) makes a bold move, commissioning three
signs leading into her town with a controversial message directed at
William Willoughby (Academy Award® nominee Woody Harrelson), the town's
revered chief of police. When his second-in-command Officer Dixon (Sam
Rockwell), an immature mother’s boy with a penchant for violence, gets
involved, the battle between Mildred and Ebbing's law enforcement is only
A darkly comic and gripping story as well as top notch performances from
Francis McDormand, Woody Harrelson and Sam Rockwells make writer-director
Martin McDonaghs Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri one of best
films of 2018 so far.
Laced with black humour and violence Three Billboards Outside Of Ebbing,
Missouri is the tale of how a grief stricken mother, turned vigilante,
takes on the town’s incompetent sheriff’s department after her daughter has
been raped and murdered.
McDormand, quite rightly, is the one getting all the plaudits for her role
as a woman who has to fight not only the justice system but the narrow
minded townspeople in order to seek justice for her dead daughter, however
her performance would be nothing without Sam Rockwell as the town’s bigoted
police officer who takes on a personal crusade to make sure that she and
her supporters don’t ask to many questions.
Three Billboards Outside Of Ebbing, Missouri will no doubt be graced with a
good number of OSCAR nominations and I for one wouldn’t bet against it
coming away with a handful of awards.
