Keanu Reeves received a much needed boost to his flagging career when John Wick was a surprise hit when it was released in the US at the end of last year. In fact it was so successful that a sequel has already been greenlighted.

John Wick is a fast paced action revenge movie where the thrills come thick and fast.

The film begins with Wick (Reeves) lying blooded in some alleyway and looking forlornly at a video on his mobile phone, the clip is of a young woman on a beach. The film then jumps back in time where we find that the female in the video was Wicks wife who unfortunately has recently died. Shortly after the funeral Wick's receives a delivery of an adorable puppy, along with the puppy is a letter written by his wife before she died telling Wick that he shouldn't mourn for her and that he should remember her through the puppy, ah. Besides his dead wife Wick has one other love in his life, a 1969 Mustang car. Unfortunately when he stops at a petrol station Russian gangsters take a liking to the Mustang forcing Wick's to tell them in their own language where to go. The thugs, led by Iosef Tarasov, (Games of Thrones' Alfie Allen) however don't give up and invade Wick's home at night stealing his car and worst of all killing his cute puppy.

What the thugs don't realise is that Wick's used to be a top hit-man for Iosef's father (Michael Nyqvist) and by killing his dog they have just unleashed hell upon themselves.

Reeves is joined by a fine supporting cast, Ian Mc Shane plays the owner of a hotel called the Continental, the hotel is the one place where hit men can go and enjoy some rest and relaxation safe in the knowledge that the rules dictate that no business shall be conducted on the premises. William Dafoe turns up as a fellow hit-man whilst Adrianne Palicki adds some sex appeal as a female assassin.

John Wick is great fun in a comic book way, Reeves never the most talented of actors’ plays to his strengths, Wick is a man of few words who lets his fists and many guns do the talking.

Great fun if you like action films.
