Based on Arthur Ramsome's famous book, Swallows and Amazons is an old fashioned tale set in more innocent times where children can be let loose on a lake
without adult supervision and can carry matches and knifes.
Set in the mid-1930's in the picturesque Lake District, Swallows and Amazons is a simple story that's full of nostalgia and charm.
Whilst her husband is away at sea, Mrs Walker (Kelly MacDonald) takes her four children - John (Dane Hughes), Susan (Orla Hill), Tatty (Teddie-Rose
Malleson-Allen) and Roger (Bobby McCulloch) - away on a holiday to the Lake District. When they arrive they stay with farmer Mr Jackson (Harry Enfield) and
his wife, the couple just happen to have a boat which the children use to explore the lake and in particular an island in the middle of it.
Once the children set up camp on the island they find that it's already been claimed by the Amazons, Nancy Balckett (Seren Hawkes) and her sister Peggy
(Hanna Jayne Thorp). As the Swallows and Amazons battle for control of the island there's also a side story running as James Turner (Rafe Spall) is being
chased by a mysterious foreigner (Andrew Scott).
Swallows and Amazons is very much a tale from a bygone era when children were allowed to roam free and wild and is a joy from start to finish.
