Charlize Theron, who put on 20kg for the role Marlo, plays a new mother who
finds that she is just unable to cope with bringing up her new born baby
and seeing after her other two children. When her rich brother (Mark
Duplass) suggests that she takes on a nanny Marlo initially refuses but
eventually when the pressure becomes overwhelming she gives in.
Marlo then calls a night nanny service and 26 year old Tully (Mackenzie
Davis) arrives at her door.
Tully is like a present from heaven to Marlo and the pair soon form a close
friendship. However as Marlo’s friendship grows it becomes obvious that
there is more to Tully than just being an expert nanny.
Tully is a simple story that’s played out at a leisurely pace, however the
one thing that saves it from becoming nothing more than ordinary is Theron
who gives, arguably, her best performance since she won the Oscar for best
actress for Monster in 2003.
