Cole Carter (Zac Efron) is a 23 year budding DJ who stays in LA's San Fernando Valley. Dreaming of the riches that are just over the Hollywood Hills in the city of LA, Carter along with his three best friends, wannabe actor and drug dealer Ollie (Shiloh Fernandez), hot head and volatile Mason (Johnny Weston) and shy Squirrel (Alex Shaffer) eke out a meagre living by working as promotors at a Hollywood club called Social. It's here that Carter meets James Reed (Wes Bently), a wealthy DJ who travels the world playing his music to his adoring fans.

Cole believes that all you need to succeed as a DJ is a laptop and one track and when Reed hears Coles one track he sees potential in the young DJ and takes his under his wing as his prodigy. The first gig that Reed gives to Cole is at his plush Brentwood mansion where Cole's eye is drawn to Reed's sultry girlfriend/personal assistant, Sophie (Emily Ratajkowski). Needless to say she is the catalyst that ensures that Reed and Cole's friendship is not going to run as smoothly as it should.

Playing pretty much like a soap opera, We Are Your Friends is an enjoyable if slightly thin story helped in no small part by great performances from its strong cast. Efron proves that there more to him that being a poster boy as he carries the film with his charisma and enthusiasm. With a thumping sound track We Are Your Friends is a surprisingly enjoyable feel good movie that will have fans of DJ music dancing in the cinema aisles. Recommended.
