Review

A story of a father and a son travelling from the US to Ireland in order to scatter their wife’s/mother’s ashes, End Of Sentence is an alternative version of that old well-travelled movie genre, the road movie.

The story is pretty simple in that Frank Fogle (John Hawkes) agrees to travel from the US to Ireland with his son Sean (Logan Lerman) so that they can scatter their recently deceased mother’s ashes in her country of birth. The journey however isn’t an easy one for the pair as Sean, who is just out of prison, has no time for his father whilst Frank doesn’t particularly have any time for his son.

When they arrive in Ireland the pair pick up hitchhiker (Sarah Bolger) and as the trio travel on their journey old family wounds start to surface,

Director Elfar Adalsteins, whose debut feature this is, has managed to create a story that’s moving and touching. Blessed with a trio of wonderful performances End Of Sentence comes highly recommended.
