STUDIOCANAL has announced that Joseph Losey’s (The Go-Between, The Sleeping Tiger) 1967 award-winning classic drama, ACCIDENT, will finally be available to enjoy in 4K when a newly restored version of the film is released on September 28.

Having received its World Premiere at Il Cinema Ritrovato in Bologna, sister festival Cinema Rediscovered in Bristol  holds the UK Premiere on 24th July before the restoration is available to own on 4K UHD for the very first time, complete with exclusive 32-page booklet, and on Blu-ray from September 28.

With a screenplay by the legendary Harold Pinter (The Servant) and a standout performance from long-time Losey collaborator Dirk Bogarde (Darling)ACCIDENT won the Grand Jury Prize at Cannes though initially failed to resonate with audiences at the box office. An adaptation of Nicholas Mosley’s novel of the same name, Bogarde is ably supported by a cast including Jacqueline Sassard (Les Biches), Stanley Baker (The Criminal), Michael York (The Lion In Winter) and Vivien Merchant (Alfie).

“The story of a love triangle ... and the four people trapped in it!”
Stephen (Dirk Bogarde) is a middle-aged professor at Oxford University. Stifled by his life of marriage and academia, he yearns for an affair with his beautiful and enigmatic student Anna (Jacqueline Sassard). He is locked into a battle for Anna’s affection against her fiancé, William (Michael York), whose youthful vitality he envies, and with his friend and academic rival Charley (Stanley Baker - Zulu), whose media profile and sexual success he covets.

One of the three film collaborations between Joseph Losey and playwright Harold Pinter, ACCIDENT is often acknowledged as one of the pinnacles of the legendary director’s distinguished career and is a compelling and unforgettable masterpiece. A welcome addition to STUDIOCANAL’s Vintage Classics label
