Cold Storage begins in 1997 with an oxygen tank from the space station Skylab surviving re-entry to earth whilst the rest burns up in the atmosphere. Landing in Western Australia a farmer makes a Skylab Museum out of it.
We then move on to 2005 and Pentagon bioterror operatives Robert Quinn and Trini Romano (Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville) turn up looking for the tank as when it was originally sent into space it was carrying an infectious fungus for study.
Quinn and Romano discover that the fungus has mutated and managed to escape killing everyone in the area. The pair then nuke the area and take a sample away and lock it in a deep storage vault in Kansas.
Time moves on and through a nice piece of timelapse photography the deep storage unit is decommissioned by the US army and becomes the warehouse for a self-storage company.
Whilst working the night shift one night Travis and Naomi (Joe Keery and Georgina Campbell) on hearing an alarm coming from a restricted area of the premises force entry and release the mutated fungus.
Most, if not all, of the action takes place within the storage facility as mutated deer and other animals try and kill Travis and Naomi.
It’s hard to know if director Jonny Campbell is playing for laughs or is trying to craft a Resident Evil type horror film, Liam Neeson’s performance only adds to the confusion as he appears to be still in character from the recent Naked Gun movie.
If you enjoy cheap B-movie Sci fi films then Cold Storage will be right up your street, if not then it’s perhaps best avoided.
