Review (Scott McCutcheon 18/02/26)

When filmmaker Baz Luhrmann made his 2022 film Elvis he came into the possession of unseen footage of Elvis Presley in Elvis: That’s The Way It Is and Elvis On Tour.

His original intention was to use it in his film but owing to the fact that the found footage came without sound this was impossible. Luhrmann then spent two years restoring the audio from the concert footage and then he combined that footage with an uncovered recording of Elvis talking about his life,

All of the aforementioned material now forms the basis of Epic: Elvis Presley in Concert.

With wonderful clarity, in both picture and sound, Luhrmann manages to bring Elvis to the screen in a way that’s not only a feast for the eyes but that also manages to capture his personality in a way that’s never been done before.

With numerous snippets from his vast catalogue of songs, if there was one complaint it would be that we get very few opportunities to see Elvis sing his songs in full, other than that Epic: Elvis Presley in Concert is a treat for not only Elvis fans but for music lovers in general.
