Trying to do a review of the incomprehensible mess that is Him is virtually impossible, especially if, after watching it, you have no idea what was going on.
Billed as some sort of Jordon Peele horror film (the advertising blurb even says from Oscar® winner Jordan Peele), viewers would be entitled to report the film company to trades description as he was nothing more than a producer.
Him is so head scratching that I defy anyone to come out of it any the wiser, in terms of the plot, than when they went in. But rather than just giving up and just saying it’s awful and leaving it at that I’ll try my best to outline the story.
Tyriq Withers (Atlanta, the upcoming I Know What You Did Last Summer) plays Cameron Cade a rising star in American Football who, after a deranged fan batters him over the head, ends up at his hero Isaiah White (Marlon Wayans), a legendary eight-time Championship quarterback, training camp in the desert.
At the training camp, that White runs with his celebrity influencer wife, Elsie White (Julia Fox), Cade is subject to some bizarre forms of training that usually involves pints of blood being spilled.
I’m normally of the opinion that not everyone’s taste is the same and what I might think as bad others might get some enjoyment from.
Unfortunately Him is one of these rare films that has absolutely no redeeming qualities and if you’ve any sense you’ll save your money and go and see something more worthy of your time.
