Review

King Richard is the extraordinary true story of how Richard Williams (played by Will Smith) turned, through dedication and forward planning from an early age, his two daughters Serena (Demi Singleton) and Venus (Saniyya Sidney) into two of the greatest tennis players the world has ever known.

Smith is fantastic in the lead role as are Singleton and Sidney, Sidney in fairness has the bigger part of the two as King Richard tends to focus more on her upbringing whilst her sister Serena tends to hang about in the peripheries.

With Venus and Serena acting as executive producers on the film King Richard was never going to be anything other than a glowing testimony to their father’s devotion and drive and that’s pretty much the way that it plays out. If you’re a sports fan there’s a lot to enjoy and even if you’re not it’s hard not to be taken in by Will Smith’s charismatic performance and a terrific story that will amaze as much as it will entertain.
