The loose adaptation of Martin Amis's 2014 novel of the same name stars Christian Friedel as Rudolf Hoss, an Auschwitz commandant, and Sandra Hüller as Hedwig Höss, his wife and accomplice. The film examines the ordinary existence of individuals complicit in unforgivable acts as it watches them strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the concentration camp.
